چکیده

To explore multi-way data, different methods have been proposed. Here, we study the popular PARAFAC (Parallel factor analysis) model, which expresses multi-way data in a more compact way, without ignoring the underlying complex structure. To estimate the score and loading matrices, an alternating least squares procedure is typically used. It is however well known that least squares techniques suffer from outlying observations, making the models useless when outliers are present in the data. In this paper, we present a robust PARAFAC method. Essentially, it searches for an outlier-free subset of the data, on which we can then perform the classical PARAFAC algorithm. A robust diagnostic plot is introduced to identify outliers. Simulations and examples show the robustness of our approach.

Partial Least Square and Parallel Factor Analysis Methods Applied for Spectrophotometric Determination of Cefixime in Pharmaceutical Formulations and Biological Fluid

In this study, the direct determination of cefixime as an anti-bacterial agent, in pharmaceutical formulations, urine and human blood plasma was conducted based on spectrophotometric measurements using parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) and partial least squares (PLS). The calibration set was composed of fourteen solutions in the range of 0.50- 9.00 µg mL-1. PLS models were calculated at each p...

Impact of dataset diversity on accuracy and sensitivity of parallel factor analysis model of dissolved organic matter fluorescence excitation-emission matrix

Parallel factor (PARAFAC) analysis enables a quantitative analysis of excitation-emission matrix (EEM). The impact of a spectral variability stemmed from a diverse dataset on the representativeness of the PARAFAC model needs to be examined. In this study, samples from a river, effluent of a wastewater treatment plant, and algae secretion were collected and subjected to PARAFAC analysis. PARAFAC...

Determination of imidacloprid in water samples via photochemically induced fluorescence and second-order multivariate calibration.

This paper presents a new method for the determination of imidacloprid in water samples; one of the most widely used neonicotinoid pesticides in the farming industry. The method is based on the measurement of excitation-emission spectra of photo-induced fluorescence (PIF-EEMs) associated with second-order multivariate calibration with a parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) and unfolded partial le...
